Congratulations to our 3A State Scholars Bowl Champions! The state title was the cherry on top of a phenomenal season. Despite fielding their youngest team in the last nine years, the team dominated all season long. From undefeated AVCTL D-IV Champions to an undefeated 3A regional championship, this team knew the state title was within reach. Despite this, the team struggled with a bit of an uneven start in qualifying rounds. To the players' credit, they really found their rhythm in the first finals round, putting up 140 consecutive points and seeing each player score. The momentum from that round carried them through the rest of finals. They ended up going undefeated in the Finals rounds, 5-0, securing the championship by putting up 345 points.
When asked to reflect on the season, Coach Peter DeVries said,"This has been one of the youngest teams Collegiate has fielded in the last nine years--only two of the players had much experience competing with each other last season. The growth over the course of the season was really remarkable. In addition to being talented competitors, they are also a group of kind, creative people who I love working with. I'm looking forward to seeing how the returning core of five will do next season."
Looking Ahead
The team was made up of senior Chris Henry, juniors Satvik Kolla and Tyler MacKenzie, sophomores Rahul Madhavan and Conner Schupbach, and freshman Hannah Ternes. With five team members returning next year, the future is bright for our Spartan Scholars Bowl team!
