Wichita Collegiate is thrilled to announce that eleven members of our senior class have been recognized as National Merit Scholars. We were able to celebrate as a student body last week when we recognized these students at an Upper School assembly.
National Merit honors are an impessive academic distinction that are decided by the students' performance on the 2022 PSAT. The PSAT was taken in the fall of 2022 by over 1.3 million college-bound junior students in the United States. As such, the special scholars that have earned these highest honors were part of an already remarkable group of students who thrive and value education.
National Merit Commended Scholars are recognized for scoring in the top 2.5% of all who sat for the PSAT. This is an amazing accomplishment, and we are so proud of seniors Elijah Allen, Sky Fujinuma, Kaitlin Henry, Wambui Ngunjiri, James Shackelford, and Avi Yendru for earning the distinction of National Merit Commended Scholars.
Furthermore, the top 1% of the entire population of test takers earn the status of National Merit Semi-Finalist distinction. Of the 449 high schools in the state of Kansas, only 45 schools had students fall in this category. This year 144 Kansas students earned this distinction, and we are thrilled to announce that five of them are Wichita Collegiate Spartans. This year's National Merit Semi-Finalists are Mason Hart, Rahul Madhavan, Paul Mines, Ayaan Parikh, and Darcel Thompson.
In the coming months, the National Merit Scholarship Program will consider all Semi-Finalists for the National Merit Scholarship. Congratulations, Spartans! We are so proud of you and this incredible achievement!
