EARLY CHILDHOOD ENHANCEMENT CLASSES

Our educational program is enhanced with outstanding programs in music, physical education, and library. We are fortunate to have exceptional, highly experienced teachers who love sharing their passion for their subject area with young students. Our librarian and music teacher visit the Great Beginnings classrooms each week. Full-day preschool and half-day preschool and pre-kindergarten students attend music and PE twice a week, while kindergarten and full-day pre-kindergarten students have music and PE three times per week. Our kindergarten students even enjoy a weekly lesson in our piano lab. Students enjoy story time in the library once a week.

In collaboration with our classroom teachers, our enhancement teachers inspire young children to explore, discover, and create.

MUSIC

An appreciation of music is cultivated among all of our students with the leadership of experienced and passionate teachers. The Early Childhood division has a full-time music teacher who focuses on moving to music, playing instruments, singing, and engaging students' imaginations in creative ways. Students are given the opportunity to show off their performance skills every November at our annual Thanksgiving concert. Then in kindergarten, students create their own multi-media performance as a culminating activity to their time in Early Childhood.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Our physical education program seeks to go beyond gross motor skill development and instead engage students in the full learning process. With creative lesson plans that incorporate character education, students actively participate in class while growing to be strong, confident children. Our students and parents alike also look forward to the many traditions that take place in our gym, including the Kentucky Derby Race and Read and Romp Day.

LIBRARY

Centrally located in our Early Childhood Center is our Jenny Paulseen Early Childhood Library, a space dedicated to children's books that will help young readers fall in love with reading. Our students meet weekly with our librarian, who shares a story that will help build early literacy skills. Beginning in kindergarten, students are invited to check out their own books, helping to build independence and responsibility.
